RESTORATIVE PRACTICE Legends
R P Legends: making a difference…
All of our Year 4 children undergo Restorative Peer facilitator training which is led by Ian Curry from the West Yorkshire Teaching Alliance.
R P Legends are trained to:
- Listen to how other children are feeling
- Help them to calmly deal with any issues
- Support children who may feel lonely
- Accompany a child who needs to seek adult support
Any child may need support at some point in their time with us – maybe they have fallen out with a friend, they feel left out or they feel cross about something. Having a peer to turn to can sometimes make a real difference. We hope that this approach will also support children in developing coping strategies appropriate to their age or stage.
They must ALWAYS ask for adult help when a pupil reports any of the following:
- Physical harm or emotional distress
- Being pressured into doing something that they are uncomfortable with
- Being in danger
Children volunteer for RP Legend duties and care is taken to ensure that they still access their own ‘down time’, eg playtime and lunchtime play.
Our R P legends have shared with the school what their role is about and the ways in which their support can be accessed. They wear a special jacket when on duty and they wear a lanyard on which they have key questions to use when trying to support another child.
We are very proud of them!
